.vantronix is seeking for a full-time OpenBSD software engineer to join the technical team of the company. The .vantronix | Security Appliances are based on the OpenBSD operating system, the most stable, secure and reliable operating system. The .vantronix | team is OpenBSD-minded and actively contributing to its development.

Considerations
The job is based in Hannover, the capital of the German state of Lower Saxony. While most of the work will be done in our head office in Hannover, it may happen that you work for short-term customer projects in Europe, Mexico, Canada, and elsewhere in the world.

You will get paid to work on and with OpenBSD. We do not use GNU/Linux, Solaris, Windows or any other BSDs but our customers do. In contrast to other vendors of BSD-based appliances, we contribute our code to the OpenBSD project whenever possible (if it fits into the project and with the exception of our system management software). And, of course, you will work close to a big data center.

Requirements
You should apply for this job if you...
  • program in C, yacc, and nroff.
  • have experience with hacking in OpenBSD kernel- and user land.
  • have a good knowledge about pf and stateful firewalling.
  • have networking experience beginning at layer 1.
  • have social skills and the willingness to talk to customers.
  • are looking for new challenges.
  • speak English.

Additional Skills
It may be desirable that you...
  • have deep knowledge about OpenBSD's network stack.
  • have experience with HP ProLiant Servers.
  • have experience with network components from HP ProCurve and Cizzz-coeee.
  • have OpenBSD as your hobby and run it at home.
  • regard a data center as a living room.
  • know about XML (XUL, XHTML) and CSS.
  • speak Spanish.
  • speak German.

Fields of Operation
You will support the development of the .vantronix | Security Appliances. The system is based on the stable branch of the OpenBSD operating system with a major release every six month. It also includes backports from the current branch, and additional proprietary changes and .vantronix management software (platform optimization, .vantronix CLI, Web Management, NMS integration).
  • OpenBSD system development with a focus on networking.
  • Development of the .vantronix CLI, Firewall Manager, and NMS Integration.
  • .vantronix | preinspection, Anti-SPAM, Loadbalancing, VPN.
  • Errata-, security-, and release management.
You will also work as a technical support and systems engineer with a direct contact to the .vantronix partners and customers. .vantronix is a technical driven company, we do not distinguish between developers and consultants.
  • System integration and project operation.
  • 3rd level support and critical mission maintenance.
  • Security monitoring and maintenance for key customers.
  • Training for support engineers (.vtSE) and product engineers (.vtPE).
